Three Little WIPs :)

Hi all!

Did you have a good Pentecoste weekend? Ours was very quiet … On Sunday, we met at my grandparents’ for coffee and strawberry cake and went out for dinner… Today, I sat down at midday and did some serious work on my dissertation stuff and my French homework (only eight weeks until the exams!).

The FOs are piling up here, but I wanted to give you a quick update about what’s on my needles now (and we can always get back to that FO pile).

First of all, I dug deep in my UFO pile and finally managed to extract The Cardigan.

This picture isn’t accurate any more (oh man …), the back is finished (who’d believe that?!?) and the right sleeve has reached the middle of my underarm (I promise). I plan to finish this before 2020. Hopefully it will still fit me then. We’ll see …

The next WIP is gonna be a present. Meet Rabbit!

Here is Rabbit, still in his Frankenstein-state … I slipped the first stitch every row while knitting the small parts and I don’t know whether this was such a good idea, to be honest. I think I’ll have to reknit everything, but we’ll see … The plan is to finish Rabbit and make a friend for him and give them away as a wedding present, but I’ll see how it goes. Maybe Rabbit will be simply a prototype. Sorry, Rabbit.

The third WIP was made out of a whim. You see, a couple of days ago, Lionberry (a really beautiful shawl) was added to ravelry and since I somehow couldn’t bare working on that right sleeve anymore and I had this yarn sitting in my stash, waiting patiently to be knit up into something after a not-mentioned desaster …

I got it out of The Box and cast on right away. So far, it’s going fine:

70% of the shawl are done (I forgot to take a photograph in time but will get another one, maybe tomorrow?) and it will be truly beautiful. The pattern calls for fingering weight, but this is laceweight on a 3,5mm needle. Maybe it will be a bit smaller, but we’ll see … This is Merino yarn and it should grow a bit after washing.

P.S.: I have been thinking about my blogging (o rather: lack of blogging) lately and I think that it’s also got to do with the fact that I started to go running three times a week since mid-February. The reason for this is simply this (the reason for starting to go running): I sit on my behind too much. Working on my dissertation: Sitting at my desk. Working on my job: 80%-95% sitting at a desk. Knitting and watching Let’s Plays and listening to music … Yeah. Exactly. 😉 Since too much sitting around is bad for your health (you can even die from sitting around! Imagine that! You’re gonna die (but only) if you sit around! Oh man …) and I hadn’t done any sports in ages, running was easy to get into. So there.

Since I run in the evenings, I am often quite tired afterwards … And I tend to blog on evenings as well. Well, I’m working on a better routine for me, I miss talking to you folks! 🙂


Something New: A Recipe!

I am so sorry for the long absence (again), but sometimes … I have to be quiet. I want to read and to knit and to write and I don’t need to talk to anyone for some time. I wanted to blog, but the words wouldn’t come somehow.

So – yes, there will be knitting content again. Sure. 😉 And soon! I have a ton of stuff to be photographed, but since Philipp came back from Australia two weeks ago, we didn’t manage to take decent photos – it didn’t help that I caught a cold last week which developed into a bronchitis over the weekend. (I’m feeling better now, and I’m really relieved about it).

So, until we get to take photos: I’d like to share a recipe with you. Philipp loves to cook and he’s really good at it, too! We eat simple, healthy meals here, him and me. And one of them is so good that I hereby present:

Philipp’s Fish and Vegetable Dish! (serves 2)

Since I am European, I use grams and litres for weight measurement. If you happen to live in a place where you measure differently, go here. I use this side for “translation” frequently when I’m knitting.

You will need:

  • 500g potatoes (ideally, these are already cooked, you can do that in the morning or afternoon)

  • 200-250g fillets of fish (on that day, we had plaice)

  • 2 carrots
  • 4 champignons

  • 4 little tomatoes and 1 pepper for the salad

  • salt & pepper
  • olive oil
  • a little bit of butter (for the casserole dish. Oh yeah, you’ll need that, too)

What to do:

  1. Pre-heat the oven to approx. 180°C (remember that every oven works differently so you might need a slightly lower or higher temperature … blahblah).
  2. Get out a casserole dish and coat it with a bit of butter.
  3. Take the potatoes and cut them into slices. Put them into the casserole dish and sprinkle with salt, pepper and a bit of olive oil.

  4. Wash and peel the carrots, then cut them into little quaters and put them over the potatoes as a “second level”.

  5. Now, for the fish! We have deep frozen fish and we used four little fillets of them. Give them a short wash and dry them. Put the fish on the bed of potatoes and carrots.

  6. Prepare the mushrooms. They’ll be the top layer, over the fish.

  7. Put the casserole dish into the oven. With our oven, we had to be patient for 15-20 minutes.
  8. In the meantime, get someone to make a tomato and pepper salad (with some salt and pepper) and set the table.

If you’re not a potatoe fan, you can exchange the potatoes for rice. You can put all kinds of vegetables in there. Zucchini. Eggplant. Sweet potato. Peas. Sweetcorn. Peppers. Go crazy and empty you freezer! You can put a bit of cheese over that as well.

This may not be haute cuisine, but it is damn tasty. And healthy, too. 😀

By the way …  I’d like to broaden the content of this blog a little bit. Not that much – but I’d like to be able to talk about books I read and love and (maybe) a bit of writing or journaling and share a couple of recipes. Of course, knitting will be the main subject of this blog, but there is so much more I want to tell you and I’d like to share and I always restrict myself.

So, what do you think about that? I know that recipes are quite common on knitting blogs, books not so much … Would you interest dwindle? Do you come here, perhaps, because I write about knitting 95% of the time? Or would you like that and find it interesting? Comments and thoughts are very much appreciated, as always. 😀
